A new approach to CONCUSSION protection,
The Helmet’s function needed to explore new ways to mitigate head trauma, and the form needed to communicate a wide step away from traditional hockey helmets. Impact tests proved no helmet on the market was effective in protecting the head from simulated forces of game-speed impacts. - Virginia Tech University study released on hockey helmets in 2016 (ongoing). https://helmet.beam.vt.edu/
Helmets in other sports (Football, Lacrosse, Autosports) played important roles for researching smarter materials and protection methods. Natural armor found in biology was studied for any insight. Existing test data showed a 2 part Inner-Padding Outer-Shell system would best utilize the space between the skull and outside impact forces. Reactive material, like RPT Poron XRD that hardens on impact would be suitable to use with this helmet’s spinal protection system to mitigate whiplash effects.
